UNION Los Angeles presents its Spring 2024 collection by Founder and Creative Director, Chris Gibbs: ‘The Courage of Youth.’
Inspired by the spirit of individualism and rebellion against conventional norms, the new offering from the Los Angeles-based in-house label launched by Gibbs speaks to the many movements that have affected change throughout history.
“I wanted to explore the essence of youth and its fearless pursuit of creativity,” remarked Chris Gibbs. “Our inspiration for this season was ‘The Courage of Youth.’ It felt fitting to lean into youthfulness and collaborate with the next generation.”
For the accompanying SP24 campaign, Gibbs enlisted the creative talents of his eldest son, Solomon, and his roommates, Ciaran, Isaac, and Alan – all fashion majors at Central St. Martins in London. Together, they assumed the roles of creative directors, casting directors, and stylists for the Spring campaign shoot. The students’ creative vision was brought to life by acclaimed photographer Jebi Labembika, chosen for his distinctive style.
Shot against the vibrant backdrop of London’s underground scene in Kensington, the campaign’s rebellious spirit was infused with the dynamic energy and freshness of the city, blending past punk overtones with modern-day vigor.
Standout pieces this season include the Crothers LS Woven, which redefines warm-weather gingham with a signature twist – an explosion of color with an oversized, boxy fit. The Strode LS Woven elevates the classic work shirt with enlarged pockets, an uneven split hem, and luxurious, yet crisp, twill fabric.
Embodying the essence of “Caribbean cool”, the Rahn Cardigan draws inspiration from the mesh marina tank top, offering an open-knit structure ideal for unpredictable spring days. The Barrow Pant pays homage to vintage Air Force pilot jumpsuits, maintaining a baggy fit, crafted from lightweight, high-density cotton-poly poplin.
